Stunting: A Handwritten Font for Creative Web Design

As a web designer, I’m always on the lookout for fonts that bring personality to digital projects without sacrificing readability. Stunting, a handwritten font from Script Amp, has quickly become a go-to for adding a touch of warmth and authenticity to my layouts.

Testing Stunting in a Hero Section

I first tried Stunting on a hero section for a boutique online store. The font’s natural flow and balanced strokes gave the headline a handcrafted feel that stood out against the clean background. It felt like the brand had a personal touch, which is exactly what the client was going for. The font worked well at larger sizes, making it ideal for headings and call-to-action buttons.

Responsive Performance on Mobile Devices

One of my main concerns with decorative fonts is how they look on smaller screens. Stunting held up surprisingly well on mobile devices. Even when scaled down, the details remained clear and legible. I used it for a product landing page headline, and it maintained its charm without becoming too fussy or hard to read.

Pairing Stunting with a Clean Sans Serif

While Stunting is a standout display font, I found that pairing it with a simple sans serif like Montserrat or Open Sans made the design more balanced. This combination allowed the handwritten font to shine as a focal point while keeping the rest of the layout modern and easy to scan. It’s especially useful for landing pages where clarity is key.

Using Stunting in Digital Branding

For a creative portfolio site, I used Stunting in the header and section titles. The font added a sense of artistry that matched the client’s aesthetic. It also helped differentiate the site from more generic designs. I experimented with different weights and found that the regular style worked best for most headings, while the bold version was perfect for attention-grabbing banners.

Stunting on Image Overlays and Backgrounds

When placing Stunting over image banners, I noticed that it didn’t overpower the visuals. Instead, it complemented them by adding a soft, organic layer. I used it on a blog header with a nature-themed background, and the font’s curves blended beautifully with the imagery. It also worked well on dark backgrounds, where the contrast made the text pop without being harsh.

Accessibility and Readability Considerations

While Stunting is visually appealing, I wouldn’t recommend using it for long blocks of text. Its decorative elements can make dense paragraphs difficult to read, especially for users with visual impairments. For body copy, a simpler font is still the better choice. However, for short phrases, logos, or decorative accents, Stunting is a great option.

Font Pairing for Web Projects

When working on a SaaS landing page, I paired Stunting with a serif font for subheadings. This created a nice contrast between the playful script and the more traditional serif, giving the design a layered, professional look. It also helped guide the user’s eye through the content without overwhelming them.

Commercial Use and Licensing

Before using Stunting on a client project, I checked the licensing details. The font comes with commercial use rights, which is essential for web designers who work on client sites or online stores. It also includes multiple file formats, making it easy to integrate into different platforms and design tools.

Final Thoughts on Stunting

Stunting is a versatile handwritten font that brings character and creativity to web design. Whether you're building a portfolio, a product landing page, or a brand identity, it adds a unique touch that stands out. Just remember to use it strategically—pair it with simpler fonts for balance, and avoid using it in places where readability is crucial. For the right use cases, Stunting is a powerful tool in any designer’s toolkit.
